Attn: Out-Of-Province Winery Tourists - YOU'RE CRIMINALS!!!

Mark Kawabe - Wednesday, December 08, 2010

Unbelievable in this day and age...

A 1928 law makes it illegal for consumers to transport even a single bottle of wine across a provincial border. The same applies for beer. This archaic law was originally designed to prevent the flow of liquor to provinces that still had prohibition in place.

Kelowna MP Ron Cannan is putting forth a proposed amendment to allow a "personal use" exemption so out-of-province tourists taking home wine from their trip to the Okanagan are not breaking the law.

Isn't this stupid? Thought you'd think so. How can you help?

Visit www.FreeMyGrapes.ca where you can email your MP to support Ron Cannan's efforts.

If it's illegal in BC, it's illegal here, so let's help get this law amended and add some common sense to the legislation.

Family Day at The Spice of Life - Save 20%

Mark Kawabe - Thursday, January 28, 2010
Just thinking that if there was ever a day to go to The Spice of Life Restaurant & Wine Bar, this would be it.

On Thursdays The Spice of Life features their Family Day special.

Adults receive a 20% discount and up to two kids under 8 eat for free (some restrictions apply).

There's also free corkage on Thursdays, which is great since if you're going to have dinner out with two kids under 8 you'll probably need some wine to get through it!

Free Corkage at The Spice of Life!

Mark Kawabe - Wednesday, January 27, 2010
It's WEDNESDAY! Hump Day! Time-to-celebrate-moving-into-the-latter-half-of-the-week-day!

So, why not celebrate by going out for dinner to a nice restaurant and enjoy a nice bottle of wine?

Oh - what's that you say? Because wine is expensive at restaurants?

Yeah, we all know that's kind of true, so why not take your own instead?

Yes, it's true. In Ontario you are allowed to bring your own wine to restaurants. Whether a restaurant will ACCEPT your wine is a different story, but those who do will usually charge a corkage fee to open and serve the wine. This is reasonable as it's taking the server's time, a couple of glasses will need to be washed etc. so there is a cost involved to the restaurant.

However, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, The Spice of Life Restaurant & Wine Bar offers FREE CORKAGE to all its customers. That means you can take that special bottle of Chateau-du-Whatever and enjoy it with a fabulous meal at The Spice of Life in their newly-renovated main floor dining room. It's a fantastic idea. So what are you waiting for? Get to The Spice of Life with a bottle in hand!
