Ceol Cara, pronounced (“key-OLE KAR-uh”) is an Irish (Gaelic) phrase meaning music friend .

The band formed in early 2005 through newly bonded friendships with the sharing of music at song circles. The four band members each currently live in the Niagara area and have been active in the music scene for many years. Everyone contributes vocally in rich textures and harmonies covering a variety of Celtic, Traditional, Shanties and Canadian music. Known for their personalities on stage and the fun and energy that they have performing together, Ceol Cara continues to grow in popularity around Southwestern Ontario.

Meet the Members of Ceol Cara

Colin White

Colin White Guitar/Bodhran/Vocals

Colin was born in Ireland and came to Canada as a young man settling in Niagara and raising his family here. He has hosted many Song Circles at his home, which is where he met and began playing with the other members of the band. Colin’s Celtic roots bring a great wealth of musical and cultural material to the band, not to mention his many original songs.

Joffre Mercier

Joffre Mercier   Button Box Accordion/Penny Whistles/Vocals

Joffre is a trained vocalist and accomplished player bringing variety and colour to the band. Joffre’s great sense of humour and whit contribute to the fun and pleasure enjoyed by the band while performing some of his tongue-in-cheek originals such as “Tighty-Whitey Man”

Jamie Wood   Guitar/Vocals

Jamie is also a great vocalist and song writer who has being inducted into the Glengarry Celtic Music Hall of Fame as one of the founding members of the band "The Brigadoons". Jamie’s vocal style stands out whenever he takes the opportunity to croon for the crowd. Originally from Cornwall and then Ottawa, Jamie has recently moved to Niagara and joined the band.

Bryan Perry   Guitar/Vocals

Bryan has been playing in the Niagara music scene since the 1970’s. He has been in many bands, creating a variety of music from easy listening jazz to popular and folk styles and Celtic music.

Playing an intricate finger picking style he adds many rhythms and textures to the sound created by the group.
