Schoolmaster's House c.1818
Relax in 19th century Ontario
Located just minutes from main
street restaurants, theatres and shopping, this designated historic
home was once operated by schoolmaster Dr. Whitelaw, as a tutoring school
for United Empire Loyalists families. Now a delightful B&B, this
tranquil house beckons you to spend some moments in a time gone by.
Enjoy
the warmth of this historic, antique filled home, featuring a spectacular
dining room, three spacious rooms, beautiful English gardens complete
with a pond and a full three course gourmet breakfast. Your hosts Len
& Suzanne will see that your stay is relaxing and memorable.
The Rooms:
Each room is equipped with feather bed attachments, bath robes, slippers,
alarm clock, complimentary personal care items, hair dryer, TV/VCR,
refrigerator, and wine glasses.
The
romantic "Courtyard", once the stables in the 1850's,
has heated tiled floors, original rafter beams, pine antique furniture,
a gas fireplace, a queen canopy bed and a stunning lounge that overlooks
the gardens. The lounge leads out to its own private courtyard and entrance.
A spacious bath ensuite includes an original claw-foot tub and brass
shower. Parking is at the rear of the door.
The Hearth's charming appeal is the queen canopy bed and the
open fireplace at the foot of the bed. The room is furnished in mahogany
antique furniture, imported carpeting and includes a vanity and reading
areas. The four piece washroom, once part of the hayloft, features an
authentic tin soaker tub that keeps the water warm for at least forty
minutes and a tiled walk-in shower.
The
"Oakes" forms the "ell" portion of the house
that was added around 1830 and used as a classroom on the first floor.
The original window panes and door hardware still remain. This bright
room is furnished in oak antique furniture, comfortable extra length
twin beds/king bed, fireplace and sitting area. The beautifully appointed
washroom is equipped with a large handicap shower and antique mahogany
vanity. The Oakes offers a private entrance and parking is at the rear
of the door.
Open year round. Most credit cards accepted.
