The Niagara Guide Inc. Privacy Policy

My name is Mark Kawabe and I'm President of The Niagara Guide Inc.

I like my privacy. I'm sure you like yours too. This privacy policy represents our committment to the protection of your privacy and any personal information you give to us.

Collection & Use of Personal Information

We collect personal information from people who sign up on our various mailing lists (referred to hereafter as "Members") such as (but not limited to) name, address, phone number, e-mail address and type of internet connection. We also collect your comments and observations on our websites through the use of website surveys. We use the information we collect to send you our e-mail messages and to mail out prizes to winners of our contests. Personal opinions are used to help us gain a better understanding of how we can make our websites better.

E-mail Subscriptions and Unsubscriptions

All correspondence from The Niagara Guide that is for an e-mail list you have subscribed to will have unsubscription information in the footer of the message. As of March 1, 2006, our systems process unsubscription requests automatically. However, if you subscribed to any of our lists prior to that date, your e-mail address may not yet be part of the new system. As a result, some unsubscription requests may take a week or more to be processed, which could mean you receive one additional e-mail message from us. However, all unsubscription requests are honoured. We hate sending e-mail to people who aren't interested in receiving it. That doesn't make us look good, so we work hard to keep our lists current.

Disclosure of Personal Information

We do not share your personal information with anyone else. This includes advertisers, sponsors or third parties who would like to access our database of Members. The owners and employees of The Niagara Guide value the trust you have provided us. We only disclose personal information you have provided to us to the general public in the following way:

  • Announcing contest winners in our e-mail messages (first and last name only)
  • Giving credit to restaurant reviewers (first name and last name only)

Cookies and IP Addresses

All web servers on the internet monitor and log the Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses of users who access a web site. This provides broad demographic information such as the time of day a site was accessed, which country or region a visitor came from and what browser and/or operating system the visitor was using. This information CAN NOT be used to provide any personally identifiable information of each user, meaning every time you visit one of our websites, you are essentially anonymous to us.

We use cookies to help reduce the frequency of pop-up advertising on our sites and for website visit statstics. If you have seen a pop-up advertisement for a particular company on our site, the cookie ensures you will not see that advertisement again within a set time period. Cookies do not provide any identification of the user visiting the site. You can choose to accept cookies by changing your browser's security settings. If you decide not to accept cookies, you will probably see a few more advertisements while visiting our websites.

Security

We do not store any Member information online where it could possibly be maliciously accessed. We use appropriate physical, technological and organizational measures to ensure the security of your personal information and prevent unauthorized access, deletion or alterations. Only employees who have a business reason to access your personal information have the permission to do so.

Questions or Concerns

We really respect your right to privacy. If you are uncomfortable with how we store, track and use your information, please notify us of your concerns and we'll see how they can be better addressed. If we can't adequately address your concerns, we will remove you from our Member database(s) so you will not be subject to any possible uses of your personal information that you do not condone.
